What is IRC?

IRC stands for "Internet Relay Chat", and it is a popular way for people to chat with others. This is ECNet, which is one of thousands of IRC networks. Each network has several different channels, or chatrooms, where you can chat which several people in one place.

What is ECNet?

ECNet is a medium-sized network that has an average of 300 people on it. Many people like ECNet because of the relative stability of its servers, the support given by the staff, the comprehensive integration of our system with other aspects of their online lives, and our continual striving for improvement. We'd love for you to make your communities home on ECNet. We're the home of a great many groups, including a large group of Typology related channels (including channels to discuss the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI types and Ennegram), groups for enthusiasts about role playing, lasers, and more.

First you'll need an IRC client, which is kind of like a web browser for IRC. If you don't want to download anything just yet, you can use our java client or our CGI client (whichever one suits your tastes better), or if you want a client you can download that has more features, then you should try one of the downloadable clients listed below.

How do I join a channel?

Once you've connected to the network, if you already know what channel you would like to join, you can type in this command:

/join #channel

Replace the word "#channel" with the name of the channel you want to join. For example, if you want to join #ecnet, type in /join #ecnet Here are some popular channels that might interest you:

  • #mipoio –
  • #ecnet –
  • #laserchat –
  • #sadie's_shack –
  • #intj –
  • #starlight –

If you want to see all of the channels you can join, when you've connected to the network, type in /list
